Jamaica
Photos of Negril and beyond in Jamaica
In my early 20s I first heard Bob Marley & The Wailers album Natty Dread--no doubt one of my life's moments of serendipity. Nobody I knew where I lived near the Southern Maine seacoast had heard of reggae let alone Bob Marley & The Wailers and I found the combination of musical rhythm and lyrical message irresistible and wanted to know more about Jamaican culture--and this was before internet, my friends, so it took some digging! I first had the sublime fortune to visit Jamaica in February of 2001. With beautiful Point Village Resort in Negril as a home base, I made unforgettable JA friends and adventures into the local area and deep into the Jamaican countryside--the "real Jamaica" one won't know without venturing beyond tourist resorts. Moved by the people and their culture, and the beauty of their land, I've gone back to Jamaica a half dozen times and always on the occasion of Bob Marley's birthday on February 6th, a time of great celebration on this tiny island nation which has remarkably managed to change the world musically if not spiritually. I've many photos to share of my adventures and Jamaicans I've befriended. My most recent visit was on Bob Marley's 72nd birthday in 2017 with the love of my life Marna and when I have some time I would love to update this page with more photos plus underwater video from the reef we visited. I always miss Jamaica, and it will always be too long until I ever get to be there again.
Here's an upful start to this page, and many more images "soon come".
Go ahead and smile, you're in Jamaica now!
